Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered Friday in honor of Lance Corporal Christopher Meis

DENVER — Thursday, March 24, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Friday, March 25, 2011 in honor of Lance Corporal Christopher Meis, 20, of Bennett.

Lance Cpl Meis died on March 17, 2011, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. According to Defense Department reports, Meis was fatally shot when he and his unit came under fire on a mission. Lance Cpl Meis was a machine gunner with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance Cpl Meis is survived by his parents and brother. Services are scheduled for Friday at noon in Denver.
