According to an employee, agents of the Colorado Department of Revenue entered the Loveland Schmidt’s Olde Time Bakery this morning and locked the doors and then asked the customers to leave. Employees were give time to put food back into freezers and coolers and then they too had to leave.
Apparently, the deal struck last year to allow the popular restaurant to reopen had fallen through. The documents posted on the front door showed the bakery still owing July 2009 taxes plus several months of the 2010 taxes. The Withholding Taxes were more up to date with the company owing for October and December of 2010 and January of 2011. The combined total owed to the state is $24,401.11.
Accompanying the notices of delinquency was a Notice of Public Sale stating that:
“at TBD on TBD the TBD day of TBD at TBD to the highest and best bidder, all or so much of the following described property as is necessary to satisfy the said claim of said Executive Director of Revenue, to wit:
All of the personal property, furniture, fixtures, equipment and inventory owned by or used in the conduct of the business at 808 SW 14th Street, Loveland CO 80537-6331.”
I am not surprised. Harry is a stubborn old man who did not care about anybody but himself. Mean, arrogant and rude to customers and employees. I worked there for a year and never had a paycheck clear the first time. Then he fired his daughter and grandson one week before Christmas. Once he got into an argument with a old lady who he bounced a check to and told me " if i could of i would of punched her in the mouth."This is a classic case of karma. Good ridence!
Yay PJ! I'm Harry's grandson's fiancee and PJ is telling the truth. I worked there for six months and although I loved the employees there and had a great time talking to the customers, everyone knew that as soon as Harry came back the company would go down. I feel sympathy for everyone there who is out of a job but I wish he would have learned his lesson the first time.
This has really got a lot of us in a bind. With no paychecks coming in today, our bank account is now overdrawn. It wasnt for lack of business either. Harry screwed his employees, the community, and the city. Thanks Harry!
If you want the money from Harry, check his pockets – he's been skimming the drawers for years. He was a horrible boss and businessman. Every business he's been part of has failed and now he's going to Kay Monfort to bail him out AGAIN. Please, Kay, let him fail – he's never cared about anyone else and has been screwing over his employees for years.
If you need cakes or donuts, go to Donut Haus – they are better anyways! Their decorator is fabulous too and very accommodating. My daughter's getting married this summer and I can't afford to roll the dice on Schmidt's (I already paid a deposit), but I decided to talk to Donut and Candy Haus and sure enough, they were able to help me (and even a better price with nice decoration than what I had picked from Schmidt's). Now my daughter's wedding cake will be fine (one more thing checked off of the list). When I talked to people at DH, I guess they have been very helpful to many people left in bind this week because of Schmidt's.
